Canadian Investing Opportunity in the United States

Written by Marc on October 1st, 2007 with 7 comments

As I write this article, the Canadian dollar is worth more than the American dollar.  In fact, it is at its’ highest level since the late 1970s.

What does this mean for us as Canadians?

One word:  Opportunity.

Consider that the American housing market is in turmoil and people are being forced to foreclose on their houses because they can no longer afford them.  This housing crunch has put downward pressure on housing prices, making it a great buying opportunity.

For example, looking at a real estate auction site based out of the U.S., for under $100,000 US I can buy a four unit property that brings in just under $20,000 US per year.  Looking up here in my …

Exploring Online Business Opportunities

Written by Marc on August 17th, 2007 with 1 comment

It seems that it has been almost a month since I have written here.  It is not that I don’t have anything to say, rather it is because I have been busy that this site has not been updated.  What have I been doing that is so important that I don’t update the blog?  Read on and see…

Basically for the last month I have been working on a blueprint to get me out of work.  You see, my children are getting old (my oldest is just starting kindergarten) and I feel like I am missing their lives.  I miss doctor’s appointments, concerts, volunteering at school and church and many other things that just plain suck.  So, in essence, my …

Saskatoon has strongest housing resale market in Canada

Written by Marc on June 5th, 2007 with no comments

According to the semi-annual Metro Monitor published by CIBC World Markets, Saskatoon has the strongest housing resale market in Canada.  In fact, according to their report, both Saskatoon and Regina are sixth and seventh rated cities based on economic momentum.

The labor market in Saskatoon is also the strongest in the country, with Saskatoon posting the greatest percentage increase in employment numbers in the country.

What does this mean to a real estate investor or entrepreneur?

One word: opportunity.  With more people buying real estate, it is a good market for flipping homes.  According to sales in the MLS (multiple listing service), the average home price in May was $233,197 CDN compared to $220,682 CDN just one month ago.  …

Four Green Houses, One Red Hotel

Written by Marc on June 3rd, 2007 with no comments

If any of you have played the board game Monopoly from Milton Bradley, you will understand the title of this post.  To give a simple explanation of this strategy, look at this list:

  1. Buy some properties
  2. Collect rent
  3. Build houses
  4. Collect more rent
  5. Trade four houses for one red hotel
  6. Repeat

This is a great analogy for life in business.  Start small, reinvest, and grow.  If you follow this simple strategy, you can and should excel in business and investing.  This can apply for online and offline businesses, and real estate investing.

This is also good motivation for those of you just starting out:  even if you are starting small, you can become …

Diversify. Reduce your risk. Increase your profit.

Written by Marc on April 12th, 2007 with no comments

Now, when I hear the word diversify, I think mutual funds.  I don’t know if there is any other word used so much as diversify in their industry.  Diversification is a result of the old saying: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”  Now, where might you ask, does diversification fit into business opportunities.

Diversifying your portfolio of businesses, income properties, and websites helps you in a few ways.  Some examples are:

  1. Protection from changing trends

If all your rental properties are located in a town whose workforce depends on a particular industry (for example lumber) and suddenly the demand for that product drops, people may lose jobs and move out of the area.  This recently happened to a friend in …

Set Priorities to Increase Productivity

Written by Marc on April 4th, 2007 with no comments

Sitting here tonight I realize one thing:  I am not getting enough done in a day.  The reason:  no focus.

If you feel the same, you are not alone.  I find one of the most challenging thing being an entrepreneur, you need to set targets or goals for your day and work towards them.  Unlike a traditional job where someone gives you some tasks to do, you are on your own.

If you look at my past few days, you will see I have been a whirlwind of activity:  creating content for websites, blog posting, contributing to forums, looking at investment properties, looking at websites to invest in, marketing, etc.  If I would have had defined tasks or goals to …

Saskatoon Real Estate up 25% over one year ago

Written by Marc on March 29th, 2007 with no comments

Statistics released recently show that the average listing price of a house on the real estate market using the multiple listing service (on the web: mls.ca) is up 25% over last year.  That makes Saskatoon the third highest gain in Canada, behind both Edmonton and Calgary.

To give you an idea of what this would mean as a return, consider this example:

Last February, you bought a home for $200,000 CDN, putting down a 25% down payment (that would be $50,000).  In March of 2007, you turn around and sell the home for a 25% profit on your purchase price (that would be $250.000.)  You would make $50,000 CDN profit (not included fees, taxes, etc.) giving you a whopping 100% …

LCD, Plasma and High Definition Installation and Training Opportunity

Written by Marc on March 16th, 2007 with no comments

With all the new televisions on the market such as LCD and plasma, consumers are now in the dark on has to hook up and operate their television.  No longer can they just hook up their rabbit ears and watch TV, those simple days are gone.

This lack of knowledge creates a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to install these new televisions in people’s homes.  Installing these televisions in customers homes is also a great opportunity for selling additional accessories that would go with their new tv.  Such items as component and HDMI video cables, surge protectors, UPS (uninterruptible power supplies), and wall mounts are items that are usually required when installing the television in a home.  If they do not …

Provide a delivery service for Costco customers

Written by Marc on March 14th, 2007 with no comments

If you haven?t ever had a chance to shop in a Costco Wholesale warehouse, take the time to check them out. They are a large membership based retailer with over 500 warehouses. They sell food, furniture, appliances, sheds, trailers, hot tubs, etc. For a lot of these big items, members (customers) put them on a cart and pull them through the till. Most of the larger items sold at Costco require a truck to take home and some customers don?t have one. They need the item delivered ? and Costco does not provide that service.

That is where you step in.

Providing a delivery service to the customers of a company with $50 billion dollars in sales …

The Science of Getting Rich Online

Written by Marc on March 6th, 2007 with no comments

Up here in Canada, I can only think of one internet guru that has influenced my internet career: Gauher Chaudhry. You may have heard of his e-zine: Cool Cash Ezine. I have been reading (and now listening as it has gone into audio format) his e-zine for the last six years. Anyways, I am excited as he has launched a new free report about earning online called: The Science of Getting Rich Online.

Usually something that is free online is not really worth the read. But as I read through the fifty two pages, I definitely picked up some good advice regarding site promotion, increasing the income of my websites, and some of the better ways …
