One of the things that I try and teach the people that I work with (and share with you reading this blog) is that a mistake is good – as long as you learn from it. If you don’t take something away from the incident, then you will continue to do the same thing over and over – if you do that in business, chances are you will fail.
But once in awhile, I get caught up in things and fail to follow my own advice. This is something that affected me just this week, and the price of my choice is still being paid right at this moment.
You see, I decided that I could save myself some money and increase …

Well, today celebrates my one year anniversary of quitting my job. A year ago I was teetering on the brink of a big decision – put my faith in business and my ability to make it succeed, or stay at my job and be like everyone else.
At the time, I was very unhappy with my job and I went to work each day only to come home angry. I felt that there was just something wrong getting paid by the hour and coming home with next to nothing. Add that to the fact that I was missing out on my children’s lives – it was just a price I was not willing to pay.
So, I quit …

One of the biggest rewards of owning your own business is that you can choose to work from home. Not only does this solve some problems like having your children in daycare, but it also can come with its own share of problems.
Perhaps the most challenging aspect of working from home is accountability. Unlike a regular job where someone checks up on you to see if you are getting the work done, when you are working at home, there are many distractions such as the television that may be more appealing than working.
To work effectively from home requires discipline and the ability to make oneself accountable. These are not easy tasks by any means, but if …

One of the most useful skills that you can develop (in my opinion) is learning how to build a business. The reason that I think this way is that it gives you the opportunity to both increase your financial well being as well as the ability to create money out of thin air.
Now I know that I could get a job if I wanted one, but in all fairness, working a job will never make me rich. Even if I was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, you have to bear in mind that trading your time for money is not a very good deal. Sure, I wouldn’t mind to make that kind of money, but in the …

One of the biggest things that I learned this year is that you need to outsource what you can so that you can get more work done. This was very hard for me, as in some respects I am a bit of a perfectionist – I want to make sure that everything is done to my standards.
In that case, you would put your potential employees through a hiring process of sorts, and weed out the good from the bad. This process can take some time, but what if you need to get something simple done quickly?

I have been really busy building other websites to expand my web empire, and I forgot one important thing:
I quit promoting this site.
Well, that was a big mistake as I have dropped from being number one for "business opportunities" to not ranking at all (I am talking about ranking on Google Canada). I guess it was a little bit of an oversight since I guess I took my site rankings for granted as I had been there for years.
But the cost of my mistake is lost income every day. Sure, this site didn’t make a fortune, but the couple hundred dollars that it brought in each month helped our finances out – and now …

I am very thankful that my business has been growing by leaps and bounds lately. In fact, it is nice that I have as much work as I want to do heading into the slow summer season. But the one challenge that I have been facing is the fact that I am having to learn how to manage a larger business.
Take for example the fact that I have two people working for me. Now, that might not seem too hard to manage, but it is the first time that I have ever had employees ever. What makes it even more challenging is that they don’t live in the same city as me at all – in fact, they …

Re-read the title. Got it?
Alright. One of the biggest mistakes that you can make in business is to duplicate yourself.
What I mean by this is that if you removed yourself from your business would it be able to exist on its’ own? Well it shouldn’t.
Sure, the day to day operations should be able to work without you at the helm, but it should not be able to completely function on its’ own. Sure, having your business work without you would be nice, but there is one big problem with that:
You risk losing everything.
That’s right, your sales, profits, and even the edge that your business currently has. If there is another company out there that offers …

Over the past few months, I have seen explosive growth in my business, but I have hit a wall. You see, instead of building my business by creating more websites, I have been just riding the wave of my success. Though that has been great, it is time for me to focus on building my business.
Originally when I quit my day job back in September, my goal was to build web sites and to keep them or sell them based on the income they generated. Sadly, I haven’t sold one site at all.
Also, back in …

It seems that it has been almost a month since I have written here. It is not that I don’t have anything to say, rather it is because I have been busy that this site has not been updated. What have I been doing that is so important that I don’t update the blog? Read on and see…
Basically for the last month I have been working on a blueprint to get me out of work. You see, my children are getting old (my oldest is just starting kindergarten) and I feel like I am missing their lives. I miss doctor’s appointments, concerts, volunteering at school and church and many other things that just plain suck. So, in essence, my …
